This seems strange to write about, but I can't help it! I had my TL on 1/10/05 and have had horrible, horrible periods ever since then. So many things changed in my life, I can't believe it. Anyways...I had TR surgery on 10/8 and am now going through my first period since the TR. It is amazing how much better I feel already. My DH said to me this morning, "WOW, your skin looks so much better." I have had basically no cramping and my right hip isn't killing me like it used to. My bleeding is actually at a normal flow! The only thing I could complain about if I wanted to was that I had a headache Thursday and Friday. That's it! I still can't believe! I should have had this surgery 3 years ago! I would have saved myself a bunch of pain and sorrow.

flutist29- thanks sooo much for posting this. I just got over a 7 day AF!!!ugh!!! I also get wicked pains shooting down my legs and lots of other PTLS symptoms. I'm scheduled for Oct 29th. I can't wait to report the same things. My and my DH were just talking earlier today that we sure hope and pray that this helps me. I can't help but feel so optimistic, which I am generally anyways, that this IS going work. Thanks again for even more hope for me and other women that this will erradiacate our PTLS!! So happy for you.

I have had one period after another since the TR that is better, less crampy, lighter and I no longer have that crazy flooding....I was even late this month and even though my cycle was longer..it was not heavier when it arrived...what a great relief it has been to have normal periods again...

I'm still thinking about it. It's very overwhelming, I don't like any aspect of having surgery. It's a big step to take. I've thought about it for a few months. IVF is so expensive and I'd rather get pregnant naturally if possible.

I had my TR done by Dr. Monteith on 7/24. In my opinion, he was a very gentle and caring person.
There is a new blog by Dr. M, and you can also read comments to the blog. Go to the homepage, and find the Blog tab from the list on the left.
I think Dr. Montieth did a fine job with my surgery, and I am healing up just fine. All in all it was a great experience.

Hey ladies, I had my tr yesterday with Dr. M! He was wonderful and all the staff were amazing. I highly recommed their facility to anyone. I felt as if I was the only one having surgery yesterday. New Specialist Surgeon Joins Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center

Dr. Gary S. Berger, world-renowned tubal reversal surgeon, welcomes Dr. Charles W. Monteith to the Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center surgical team.

Dr. Monteith is the first tubal reversal surgeon to join the practice since the initial tubal reversal microsurgery performed by Dr. Berger in 1982.

After completing his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he accepted a clinical assistant professor position with the department of obstetrics and gynecology in 2001. He also served as assistant professor in obstetrics and gynecology at Wake Medical Hospital in Raleigh for seven years where he practiced high-risk obstetrics and advanced surgical gynecology.

Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center is the only facility in the United States dedicated exclusively to tubal reversal surgery. The Ethics of Tubal Ligation

Dr Berger has posted to his tubal reversal blog about the Ethics of Tubal Ligation. He says Doctors who perform tubal ligations should consider the possibility that the patient might in the furure change her mind, and therefore it is preferable to perform a type of tubal ligation better suited to reversing at a later time, should the need arise.

"One of today’s patients at Chapel Hill Surgical Center was a woman in her thirties who recently become married and had a tubal ligation at age 24 years when she had no children. Her tubal ligation had been performed by a tubal coagulation procedure in which the fallopian tubes were burned at the junction of her uterus. The tubal lumen or opening within the uterine wall was scarred completely on both the right and left sides from the burning procedure. Therefore, the only way to perform a tubal reversal was through the technique of tubouterine implantation.

I mention this case because it was unnecessarily destructive, especially when performed for a young woman with no children. Many studies show that these are women who are most likely to change their minds later on and want to be able to have children. In this case, almost any other tubal ligation procedure would have been preferable. In my view, the best choice of a tubal ligation for a young woman with no children is the clip method (either Hulka clip or Filshie clip)."

In a follow up post the question is raised, since there are tubal ligation methods that can be reversed, is it ethical for a doctor to destroy the tubes in a young woman with no children?

Dr Berger writes "One of today’s patients is a 26 year old who had a tubal ligation at age 22 and had never had children. The doctor who performed her tubal ligation first applied Falope rings to the tubes, then proceeded to burn them in several locations. In her case, tubal reversal was not possible at all. During her operation, I wondered why any doctor would perform such a destructive type of tubal ligation for a young woman with no children. The Falope ring alone would have been sufficient to prevent pregnancy, yet allow reversal at a later time if she changed her mind about having children. Fortunately, she has the option of treatment by IVF. Still, why would a doctor perform an operation that essentially destroyed the tubes in such a young woman when there are a variety of other less destructive procedures for performing a tubal ligation? Is this ethical medical treatment?

Why Women Get Tied Tubes Untied

Some women seek to have their tubes untied for many reasons other than to have another child after tubal ligation. Some of the reasons are to: relieve symptoms associated with a tubal ligation (PTLS), feel whole again, be like God intended them to be, comply with their religious tenants, relieve regret of a prior mistake, correct a decision made during a past and difficult relationship, or fill the emptiness from the loss of a child or another loved one.

Over a year ago, I approached Dr. Berger at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center to start a new career as a tubal ligation reversal specialist. When I started to pursue my interest and training in tubal reversal surgery, I naively thought that only women who wanted to have another child had their tied tubes untied. I have come to realize that some women seek to have their tubes untied for many reasons other than to have another child after tubal ligation.

Of course the number one reason is to have more children, but there are many more and equally important reasons patients give. Some common reasons patients come for tubal ligation reversal are to:

• relieve symptoms associated with a tubal ligation (PTLS)
• feel whole again
• be like God intended them to be
• comply with their religious tenants
• feel more like a woman
• relieve regret of a prior mistake
• correct a decision made during a bad relationship
• fill the emptiness from the loss of a child or another loved one

As a generalist ob/gyn, I was always keenly aware of how many women bore both the burden of having children and the burden of sterilization. It was only after I became a ligation reversal specialist I saw how heavy the burden of tubal ligation could be. Now I have the opportunity to help in these situations and feel gratified that my training as a tubal reversal surgeon is progressing nicely under Dr. Berger’s mentorship.

   There are a few good reasons I chose to have a tubal reversal. The main reason is because my husband now forced the issue since he doesn’t have children of his own. My kids who are older now (13 and 11) would love to have a new sibling who is part of me as well as their stepfather. It is a HUGE decision that needs a lot of thought and time put into it. I will be 32 tomorrow and I had been thinking of doing it since I was 28. I am happy to say we are going to TTC later this summer. Many thanks to Chapel Hill staff. Thanks a bunch for giving me this wonderful opportunity to be a new mother again.

It is so true. I did get a TR to have another child but throughout the journey as a matter of fact just soon after my TR I felt like "myself" again, I felt something more was fixed or returned to me that had been taken away without me even really knowing it. I even told my husband a few months after that even if we did not ever have another child, it was money well spent for the what it had given back to my life. Jo

During the week of April 19 – April 25, 2008, 20 new pregnancies were reported by Dr. Berger’s patients after their tubal reversal procedures. The women’s ages ranged from 33 to 40, and the fallopian tube lengths after their tubes were untied ranged from 3.0 cm to 7.5 cm. The tubal ligation methods among these women included Hulka clips, Falope rings, bipolar coagulation, and ligation/resection. At present, more than 1000 babies have been born following tubal ligation reversal by Dr. Berger.

Remarks: I’m not entirely sure how this happened!!! LOL - I must have ovulated right after my period stopped??? I don’t really ‘feel’ pregnant yet, the only reason I tested was because I thought I started bleeding/spotting again 2 days after my cycle stopped. Then it stopped after 2 days and started again 2 days later. I’ve never ever had spotting or any kind of break thru bleeding-except when I was pregnant. Also, I was having pain on my right side that was strong enough to wake me from sleep Friday night. We did the hpt and that line came of fast. We aren’t talking a faint line, like I would have expected on CD16!!!(if any line at all) My Dr. sent us to the Hospital since I was having pain on Rt. side. The pain went away and my hcg level was 549. Although it was too early to see anything, they did an ultrasound anyway. Nothing. I test today for 2nd level. I still have some spotting, not like I did on Saturday. Just playing the waiting game and praying for our miracle. Funny how life changes in a moment! Thanks!!

We weren’t TTC since I was told I didn’t ovulate without Clomid (I have never test positive for ovulation with test sticks or a fertility monitor without being one Clomid). We are in total shock and of coarse overjoyed and scared at the same time. My 1st HCG number at CD 31 was 21 at CD 33 39 (that was 45 hours apart). I will keep you updated.

Remarks: I used ovulation test sticks (7 stick packs), monitored daily temperature and monitored my cycle. In March (period began 3/1) the peak ovulation day was never indicated. In April I had what appeared to be a very brief (2 1/2 days) period beginning 4/1. Noticed swollen and tender breast on 4/10. Began my usual ovulation stick test on 4/11. On the morning of 4/13 I took both an ovulation test and a pregnancy test and the pregnancy test came up positive. Noticed some spotting that day. Had a quantitative analysis done at ob/gyn on 4/14 which confirmed the pregnancy. Monday 4/14 Progesterone 3.87 and HCG 144.1. Due to the low numbers I was put on Progesterone suppositories and pelvic rest. Wednesday 4/16 Progesterone 22.25 and HCG 176.8. Today, Friday 4/18 HCG 299.00. I continue daily spotting and remain on Progesterone suppositories. I am scheduled for another quantitative analysis on Monday 4/21.

Scheduleing Tubal Reversal Surgery

How Far In Advance Do You Need To Contact Dr. Berger In Order To Schedule Surgery For Tubal Reversal?

Women who choose Dr. Gary Berger as their tubal reversal doctor are anxious to schedule surgery for the first available surgery dates. Julia Smith, Nurse Administrator at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center, responds that appointments typically fill up arond 4 weeks ahead of time with Monday and Friday appointments the first choice for most women. If a patient has flexibility regarding the day of the week they choose for their appointment, tubal reversal surgery can sometimes be scheduled within 3 weeks.

Hey, well if you look on the website to my understanding you can schedule right away but it has to be paid in full at least 3 weeks before your surgery and all your tests and paper work needs to be forwarded to Dr. Berger's office asap.

There are two options for scheduling/paying for tubal reversal surgery.
If you would like the discounted fee, you would send full payment of the $5900 the day after you call us to schedule the appointment. If you are paying the standard fee of $6900, you can schedule and hold an appointment by sending us $250 and the balance of $6650 would be sent three weeks prior to the surgery date.

The Spring months fill up faster than other months, so April may be nearly full if you wait until late in March to call. If you call the first part of April, Monday and Friday appointments may be full, be we should be able to get you scheduled if you have some flexibility regarding the day of the week.

Our goal is to help you schedule for a time that is convenient for you, so stay in touch over the next month and we will keep you updated on April appointments!

Women who chose Dr. Gary Berger as their tubal reversal doctor discuss how quickly they became pregnant after tubal reversal surgery at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center. Many of the patients that have already posted a response received their first positive pregnancy test within 3 months of their tubal reversal surgery.

One patient posted that within 34 months of her tubal reversal surgery with Dr. Berger she had already given birth to two tubal reversal babies and is currently 6 months pregnant with her third tubal reversal baby! This is very encouraging to patients still planning their tubal reversal.

It really doesn't take long for some. I had my TR 11/19/07 and my first BFP on 12/30/07. Unfortunately, it ended on 01/14/08. BUT that was pretty quick for me and I am happy with knowing that it can happen.

I hope the more successful stories will chime in because there are quite a few!

Hi Chucksgirl, I had my tr 3/12/07 & 1st bfp 6/13/07 ended on 6/29/07 e/p. 2nd bfp 8/25/07 ended mc. 2nd hsg on 1/08/08 showed right tube wide opened & on 1/25/08 I just tested w/fact plus & it's a BFP I'm thrilled & I'm going on monday to get my 1st hcg num.'s I just hope that they double & this one is a keeper!!! Well the 1st time I got my 1st BFP was 2 months after my TR which was on May 2, 2006. I of course mc but then 2 months after that I got a BFP again w/twins and well we lost one of the twins in the beginning of the pg it observobed but on June 1, 2007 we had a healthy happy boy RJ who is now 7 months old and almost 24lbs. Also I am 41 years old I had him 2 days before my 41st bday.

It is different for many people. As for me it did not take long. I had my TR march 31 05 and TR#1 was born the same year in Dec. We got PG again right away with Tr #2 and he was born 13 months after the 1st one. I am now Pg with TR # 3 and she is due in May so if you add it up I had my TR 34 months ago and I have 2 babies and 6 months PG with # 3, so it does work. Wishing you the best. I had my TR done 11/21/07 and got pregnant the first time DH and i were together after surgery. Needless to say, we weren't quite trying yet, it just happened. That pregnancy ended 12/31/07 in emergency surgery as an ovarian ectopic. We are currently trying again.

We will be trying again after another complete cycle. So in March.
Dr. said after all the trauma of MC and EP I need to wait. My body seriously needs a good long break. He said if I got preg in that next month after the tube removal, it would be a guarantee it wouldn't go well. Anesthesia, pain meds it was all yucky stuff in my system, my organs being messed with repeatedly....
As you can see I was pregnant 2 weeks after TR.
IF I had to do it all again I would wait at very least a full complete 30 days to TTC and NOT after my 1st period. My first AF was 1 week after TR.
I would wait just to make sure the healing had been complete. The surgery is rough on the body. I still think if I would've waited things would've turned out better. I was kind of shocked to be BFP so fast. I was still weak and healing. It just wasn't good for me at all. Basically we cut the stitches and BAM I was BFP.

My personal recommendation is to wait until you feel 100% healed, not good enough or kind of healed... Gwen the tube swelling is a concern I had too.
A full month, not your first AF or even 2 can make a world of difference I think. By 2 months you should be perfect. It's just my opinion, we've been through hell so far TTC. I don't want to repeat it. For me waiting is best.

I hate waiting, but I want to be sure everything is PERFECT in there!!

I think Miss Khadija is the most I've heard of with 3!!! You go girl!!! [Smile]
I can't wait to be BFP again. Sigh... our wait time is going fast so it's ok. [Smile]
1 month down, Feb to go. Then try in March!
Everybody is different, I guess it's go with how you feel and how your body reacts to surgeries and trauma like that during your whole life.
My body likes to take it's sweet time so I'm listening to it.

My name is Tessa and I was reading your post. You conceived twice without any complications and I think that is wonderful and I hope that is how it works for me. What are your tube lengths? I just had my TR on the 24th, do you think it is too soon to BD? My AF ended yesterday, so in about 6 days I will be ovulating. I am a little unsure if I should wait till after another AF or not. My DH says whatever I want to do, he is ready whenever I am ready. What do you suggest? I understand that the pregnancy outcomes are different for each. Thanks

First pregnancies after tubal reversal have occurred within weeks up to as long as 4 years. I believe that the most children reported to us so far after tubal reversal is four, but there are many women who have had two or three children since their reversals. In my next analysis of the Tubal Reversal Pregnancy Study for 2008, I will take a closer look at this and include information in the report in answer to the question about "tubal ligation reversal how long before pregnancy".

Well it only took me about 6 weeks [Smile] I never even had a period after my TR. I was on AF durning TR and I have very long cycles So to my surprise on CD 68 and 8 DPO I got my BFP and now have a sweet little girl that is 5 weeks old.. I could not beleive that I got PG on my first cycle, it has not even been a year sense my TR and I already have a baby [Smile] Dr. Berger is AWESOME!

Tradionally, tubal reversal surgery microsurgery has been a major in-hospital operation with several days of hospital stay and surgical techniques that cause postoperative pain and disability. They don't think about how to minimize postoperative pain while performing a surgical procedure. Patients, of course, would prefer that surgeons avoid techniques that cause pain after they awake.

Postoperative pain following abdominal surgery is due mostly to trauma to the muscles and connective tissues in the abdominal wall when using traditional surgical techniques. Abdominal retractors (metal instruments that pull back on the skin, connective tissues, and muscles to provide exposure of the pelvic organs), cause bruising and reduced blood flow to tissues during the time they are being held apart by the retractors. In my experience - having performed over 6000 outpatient tubal reversals - the operation is best performed using no retractors at all other than just the surgeon's fingers, the gentlest of all surgical instruments.

Surgical packs (large gauze pads) traditionally are placed into the abdomen to push the intestines away from the pelvic organs. These irritate the intestines and are unnecessary in most cases.

Another technique that prevents postoperative pain is injecting a local anesthetic, even though the patient is asleep, in the areas where surgery is performed . This effective technique is called "pre-emptive analgesia".

These are some of the methods that I use that make tubal reversal comfortable as outpatient surgery. These techniques allow patients to awake in comfort and avoid the need for repeated injections of narcotic pain medications. Making surgery comfortable improves patient outcomes, avoids the need for routine postoperative hospital care, and results in low cost tubal reversal.

The only change I would recommend is that it not only give you the option to change the word you misspelled, but you have the option to delete the word all together without closing out of the program and doing it manually.

Example : I jus twas metioning that yesterday.

Both "jus" and "twas" will be highlighted seperately. So you have to correct the first one by typing "just" and the second one by typing "was" instead of being able to type "just was" in the first error and deleting the second one.

Just something I noticed. I am very glad to see that this option is now available thought. Lord knows I need it!!

Dr Berger's experience does count

When I went to the Wikepedia page about Tubal Reversal, I came upon this sentence. This delicate surgery is best performed by a reproductive surgeon with specialized training and experience in the techniques of tubal ligation reversal.
This describes perfectly what I observed in our operating room today. During a tubal reversal procedure, Dr. Berger was faced with unexpected results from our patient's prior surgery. The outcome looked bleak, but Dr Berger's training and years of experience gave him the edge. I was amazed as I watched him create a beautiful, functional tube and fimbria out of what appeared to be a hopeless situation. Instead of two tubal segments, this patient had three. The third segment consisted of only fragments of the fimbria that could not be attached. The remaining length was good. On the other side was a short and very fibrotic tube with no opening at all into the uterus, but a healthy fimbrial segment. Any normal surgeon would have quit, but Dr. Berger used his many years and used the good fimbria segment from one side and connected it to the tubal segments on the other side that had no fimbria. Now this patient has one long, healthy tube with fimbria. It just a miracle!! This patient has just left the Tubal Reversal Center to finish recovering at the hotel. She and her husband left filled with hope, realistic hope. They realize their circumstance is unusual and if hadn't been for the experience and fortitude of Dr. Berger and his OR team they wouldn't have been so lucky. Training and experience truly do make all the difference in the world!

I was having a really rough 2 days, worrying about what kind of TL I had and worried that it wont be a successful TR. I am scheduled for 7-31 and I am so excited. BUT... there are NO guarantees in life. Many don't walk out of the first surgery with enough to do a second... so that kind of guarantee seems null and void from the get-go. How much is he charging originally? Is he charging so much that he can afford to give back money with no consequence to his bottom line? Think about it... all stores have sales... the prices are jacked so high to begin with...they still make a profit selling it at 50%off! Dr. Berger's cost seems as low as one could expect it when you consider EVERYTHING that goes into his services. Is this the only thing this doctor does? Is he a one-service SPECIALIST like Dr. B? How many surgeries has he done? What are his success rates? What are his pregnancy rates? You better make sure you are comparing apples to apples. We are women... who want desperately to have more children... emotionally we are a wreck from that stand point. Financially all our options are stressing, to say the least. Emotions and finances pull us in two different directions usually. I personally think when you are trying to pick a doctor, the financial part of it needs to be the last variable. Find one with a track record second to none... I am positive that will land you in Dr. B's surgical center. And if the runner up is the local guy and you feel his stats are such that you are willing to accept them as your odds for success... then let the money back guarantee factor in. In all the research I did Dr. Berger was IT!! I looked at all the locals and even with a money back guarantee they did not have the credentials to stand behind not to mention that they were all a six week recovery unlike Dr. B's just about 5 day recovery. Everything factors in. With Dr. Berger the hotel is discounted for his patients, the hotel gives free shuttle to wherever you want to go while you are there and the staff is stupendous...and they don't stop at surgery!! They don't just say good bye, nice to meet you, have a great life....they are truly concerned the rest of your life. You won't find that anywhere else for any amount of money!! Hope this helps... I'm not sure how much money they refund of charge for these procedures. I had my surgery in Aug. 2002 and the prices have changed over the years. Like the tests that the doctor must perform himself to see if you are even eligible for the money back offer. Aside from the the things that Chrissy and Jehning's Mom said, I was most impressed by the fact that Dr. Berger and his staff are available day and night, weekends, and holidays. Personally I have called both Julia and Jennifer at least half dozen times at night and they always answer and respond to my questions. When I e-mail Dr. Berger on the weekend, he always responds. I know that no one can guarantee me a baby or that my tubes will remain open - no one can guarantee that - but they definitely are available 24 / 7. I have talked with many women who thought they had found doctors with better "deals" and in every case it turned out that it was too good to be true and more money was owed or there were stipulations that were not given up front, but after the fact. I think we all expect surgery to cost money and we all save to be able to pay the fee, but me and my dh also want to know that we are getting the facts and the total cost up front without surprises. You would have one open tube and his guarantee is no good. So, Dr. B's reduced 2nd TR is essentially the same as a refund - it would be like getting that money back and choosing to use it for a second surgery open the tube no matter how many or which one was open or blocked. If that doesn't answer your questions... contact a nurse via email... they are great with prompt responses and getting you anything and everything you need. Have the patience of saints.... they must answer the same questions from all of nervous nellies 20 times each day... and never do they seem exhausted for having done it. Ectopic preggos are at an elevated level compared to women who have never had a ligation reversed. Reversal means a surgical site.. means the possibility of scar tissue... means altered lengths... just messes with the "natural" flow of things a little more. I believe some of the higher miscarriage rates are due to women testing SO EARLY and knowing they were preggo... I had a friend that was testing early like that... had she not, she wouldn't have known she was preggo and m/c'ed... and would have just thought her cycle was late. Other factors include the ages of some of the women.... lots of them on the over 40 thread (GO GIRLS!!!!) and age plays a role naturally... then add the risks because of being reversal patients. It all adds up. AND... talk to enough women... you would find a lot of them have miscarriages - we just don't know it because they aren't all concentrated on a message board like this... all women trying to conceive. My mom had two unexplained m/c before my older sister... than 4 normal preggos without a hiccup. My best friend wasn't trying... found out she was preggo, shocked... adjusted... then m/c'd. I could go on and on in my own personal life of a long list of m/c that had nothing to do with TR. Personally, your doc's "guarantee" means little to someone in my situation. I know I am flirting with the 2% Dr. Berger may not be able to put back together... my doc butchered me inside. But all my research has lead me to him. I know there is nobody else out there that will give me as much as a chance as he will. I have a one shot opportunity at the possibility of making a baby naturally... Dr. Berger is it. Trust your heart... ask every question to every doctor you are considering... leave no room for doubt or regret... in the end, it is you that matters. Remember I am a numbers girl... stats can always be presented in such a way to skew them to any one side's favor. You have to come up with your own metrics and determine what is important to you personally... and judge them all based on that. Remember, someone who has done 100 surgeries with PRIME candidates could have higher "success" rates than someone like Dr. Berger who does everything possible to help even those on the verge of "disastrous" - his "success" rates may be lower because he has a broader limit to what he takes in as a candidate. And none of us on that marginal candidacy would ever fault him for us never having a baby... too bad we didn't know to do research before we let some go in and do as they pleased to our bodies. I second Chuck's girl's comments on the 24/7. I missed that one in my "essay" on skewing stats... we all are here because we have a common objective... one that comes with many questions, concerns and problems. We don't need much help when things are going right... and sometimes forget to drop in and let the world know... perhaps, here anyway, out of fear of depressing those struggling when we are not. Sunshine Lady, it isn't an easy decision. Blocked tubes aren't the only thing that prevent the ultimate outcome - a baby. Hormones, sperm, stress, etc... even with perfectly open tubes of optimal length... there are those who never get a baby... much less even conceive. I understand the money back can be used towards further attempts of another nature. I consider my guarantee Dr. Berger. In my opinion, HE IS THE BEST available (people come from other countries to have him do their surgeries!!!) If he can't give me a fighting chance, then I know it can't be done. Any other doc I checked into... I felt it was short-comings on their end that limited the options available to me. I will say it again, follow your heart. You have to be satisfied by your decision. On this board, however, you will not find anyone who will support anyone else but Dr. Berger. They have done their research and landed here. See how many women like us your local doc has backing him up.... maybe that is one of your metrics to consider. Chrissy

I've been on other sites that say negative things about Dr. Berger's clinic in round about ways. Because he's the BEST a lot of people try to offer too good to be true deals as they cannot beat his education, number of actual surgeries performed, and years of experience. The other thing to remember when it comes to ectopic/mc. A lot of the women who come to Dr. Berger have had Tubal ligation procedures that have torn their reproductive organs to pieces and Dr. Berger lets you know what you chances of getting pregnant are before he operates. Many of us are willing to take that chance even if the numbers are as low as 40 and 50%. Every web site will tell you that with TL and TR there is a chance of having Ectopic pregnancy and Dr. Berger tells you how to handle a positive pregnancy test to make sure you are safe until you get past the point of concern. Also, women who are 35 and up have a high rate of miscarriage whether you have gone through a TR or not. I guess it comes down to the fact that he's done over 5000 surgeries and practice makes perfect.

There are many women who suffer from the same outcomes who have never had a tubal ligation at all. It takes long periods of time for some women to conceive who have never caused any damage to their tubes. I have seen that other dr's say they have high success rates but only dr berger shows actual numbers and statistics to back up what he says and shows the pregnancies every week on another forum. On other doctors message boards I don't see as many pregnant women as on this board and I am suspicious of how they know what their success really is. Why don't they tell how many pregnancies there are every week? After more than 1 year of research I am convinced that Dr Berger is the best TR surgeon and one you can trust to tell the real truth, not make up some numbers just to sound good. When I have the money I am going to Dr. Berger.

I hope you came to this board because you value other peoples opinion and want to do what is best for you (no matter the money figure). Dr. Berger does guarantee that if your tubes are repairable he will do his job. Your tubes will be open when your surgery is done if they are repairable. He cannot predict that when you heal scar tissue will not block them. If it does, he guarantees he will go back in and reopen them for a discounted price. We are not talking about a week later... I've been almost 2 years with no BFP and I know if I find out my tubes are blocked I can go back to see Dr. Berger even now. Is that the guarantee for your money back locally. Be sure to read the fine print...does he guarantee that when you leave his surgery room at least one will be open and he is not responsible once you leave? I think that is what everyone is trying to get at. How far does this guarantee go.... years from now???? Something certainly to consider. Life doesn't really have too many.. In the end you need to go with what feels better for you. I researched allot of Doctors during my Search for the best 1.. We chose Dr Berger because of his Reputation and I don't regret it at all.. I do however know some Ladies that do.. They ended up with very short or no Tubes at all.. I believe that is a risk you take with any Doctor and to be safe you could choose the little Procedure prior to the Surgery that would give you a better insight on what you may end up with.. I had my TR in Sept 2002. I came out with great Lengths.. Conceived in December that Year but lost the Baby at 8 wks in Feb Yes you read allot of miscarriages on this Board but look at how many People are here.. I joined a m/c Group and just in our Group we had over 50 Ladies that had a m/c the same month as me.. I was the ONLY TR Patient.. M/C's are very common and most of the time a Woman not obsessed with POAS will never know she was pg. Unfortunately once you have a TR you become obsessed with trying to get pg and we test soo early (I know I was)... TR's have no higher or lower rate in normal m/c's then before. I think the E/P' Rate goes up a bit because you just had Surgery on your Tubes. I had 2 m/c's before ever having any children.. Anyway's I got pg again in June 2003 and my TR Miracle just turned 3 this past Month.. I also found out last Month that we are expecting TR Baby #2 in October.. You want to see some true numbers? On this thread there are about 12 regulars on it. Most went to a Dr. in Mexico, and another 2 went to a Dr. in the south eastern states (Tn and FL?? can't remember where) I am the only one that went to Dr. B. For the majority of us, we have had our TR's at least 2 years ago and our ages range from 26 - 37. So far, of the 12 of us, only 4 women have achieved pregnancy. Of those 4 women, there has been 8 pregnancies to date (3 were mine), and there has only been 1 live birth so far (mine). When new members visit our thread they all notice that I am the only one who has been successful and right away they want to know who did my surgery. The other regulars on the thread also now say that they wish that they had either known about Dr. Berger or that they had chose him when making their decision. I am 36 years old. I had my TR on 4-8-05. I was pregnant by 5-23-05 and delivered a healthy baby boy on 1-27-06. I was pregnant again within 4 months but miscarried at 7-8 weeks. I got another BFP on 2-1-07 and am almost 9 weeks pregnant with this baby. All is well so far. All this, 3 pregnancies and it's been less than 2 years since my TR surgery with Dr. Berger!! You want numbers, there are some numbers. Obviously not EVERYONE will be as successful. But that is life, it's not perfect. God makes no guarantees, so we cannot expect Dr. Berger to make something he has no control over. I'm sure that if he could, he would. But it is YOUR body and YOUR body's healing process is what is going to determine whether or not your tubes block or not. Some people scar a lot, some don't. Dr. Berger treats each one of his patients as an individual and we all received his very best attention before, during and after our surgeries. My husband and I lurked on this board, read the web site about 50 times over, ordered the DVD, asked questions when we had them, and compared doctors. Dr. Berger was BY FAR the best and we would not have even batted an eye and payed double what he charges for his services. He IS THE BEST! We wanted another child (not a refund if it didn't work) and would go to great lengths to have another one. Ditto to what the previous posted said. I will not regret the outcome of my visit with Dr. Berger. I will regret the uninformed decision I made 7 yrs ago when my TL was done. And even when I think that through (and as my DH tries to console me as such)it appeared to be the "right" decision given what life was throwing at me. Right decision... wrong procedure... wrong doctor.... I don't know... Everyone here has done a good job getting me over those humps. WHAT IS... IS! We travel down a path... some stops unknown why till much later in life. Go for NO REGRETS. What that means is different for all of us. Pregnancy rates for IVF are not any better... and are still subject to age, hormones, genetic make-up, etc... just as TR preggos are...and you pay for EACH cycle at a greater cost than one TR surgery. Adoption... not a solid guarantee... here those go "bad," too. And someone a alluded to it already... not all women can have children anyway. That brings us back to: LIFE HAS NO GUARANTEES! We are all asking for a second chance at it... MOST have had some, decided to be "done" and then changed our minds for one reason or another ( WOMEN!!!! ) Your local doc will give you money back... but you aren't getting a baby out of it! The guarantee you should be looking for is the best surgical procedure.... After all... that makes or breaks a good part of the "Success" of the TR... after that it is up to OUR BODIES... for that, there is no guarantee... some scar more, some are past baby making days, some aren't compatible with our DH's genetics, etc.. You don't get your money back for any of that. And like many have said... READ THE SMALL PRINT... there has to be many "catches" to it. We all want the same thing. "There are many ways to skin a cat." What works for one, may not work for the next. Said it before.... hope you find your way to Dr. Berger. He tied my tubes and would have untied them also. I do not consider my doctor, my doctor. I consider him my friend. He would have gladly untied my tubes, for $12,000. I considered it, before doing research. When I found Dr. Berger it was EASY to decide to go with him. I do not feel the need to talk him up. READ. He is a genius at what he does. There is no way to get any guarantee's in life. I'm not going to argue about your doctor's guarantee, I'm just saying a little fishy. I am about to have my baby boy in 3 weeks. I got pregnant 3 months after TR. This is my first son. I have had 4 C-sections and on my way to my 5th planned. My tubes were short but they worked. I WOULD NEVER CONSIDER GOING ANYWHERE ELSE. That is my guarantee.

The staff was great, the DR was Fab, and the ladies I met on my journey this week will be friends for lifetime bc we all have a bond now. Let me ask you this. How many Dr's would go in for one type of surgery and repair two w/o charging a penny more? What am I talking about. well I went in to get my TR and Dr. Berger found that I had torn my abdominal wall and had a hernia protruding from it.. What did this great man do repaired it on the spot. I woke up to I have great news... you have 7.0 cm tube length on your left and 7.5 cm tubes length on your right and oh by the way I repaired your hernia while I was in there. I was so surprised. I did not even know I had it. So tell me again where you would get something this great? ONLY CHAPEL HILL TR CENTER AND Dr. Berger AND HIS STAFF. Oh course I am very sour today and living on the Pain Killers but that is to be expected after all I went through. The other ladies that had it done yesterday feel wonderful... here's to hoping for a great outcome

I have not had mt TR yet but I am scheduled for April 10th next month. I chose Dr. Berger not looking for a guarantee just looking for a doctor with great credentials in performing TR. Every site that I would look up Dr. Berger name was on the site or I was lead back to Dr. Berger in some way. I feel he is the best and have not even met him yet. His web-site just give so much information. I find myself looking at this web-site everyday as if it was my e-mail. I can't wait to meet this man I am so excited. I just feel that when making my choice to perform a surgery on my body I want someone who specialize in just that surgery, not a doctor who can do that plus more. I think I have made the right choice. Also you women on this message board sure make a person feel so warm and welcomed. Thank You all.
