Today...my life will change

Today I am having a Tubal Ligation Reversal

Ok, ladies....just wanted to update before I jump out of bed and start my pre surgery stuff!! Met with about 4 or so different people yesterday and to be completely honest....this practice is absolutely amazing. I feel so excited and I feel like I'm in very good hands. Dr. Berger is a soft spoken kind of man (which helped calm me down yesterday) but also just went out of his way to listen to me and he already offered to contact my OB in Jacksonville and bring him up to date after my surgery, and to tell him about the early pregnancy protocol that I should do when I get a positive test. (i.e. betas drawn every 2 days, and u/s when they hit 1500-2000!) just made me so happy to know he would do this to Save me time when I get home and hopefully avoid some confrontations if my OB doesn't know how to handle a TR patient!

Anyways, he also gave me great info on ptls and showed me a study he is working on about that...I know I'm rambling but I just feel so happy that I like this place!! Lol

Anyways, I'll be on the other side before lunch, Lord willing!!!! Thank you ladies for all your support! It's been a looooong 3years!!! Glad to close this chapter of my life and hopefully move on!!!

After Reversal

Thx ladies! I'm exhausted! But in absolutely NO pain! And no bloating as of yet either! I have had the best experience here at chapel hill! I ended up with 5.5 centimeters on my right and 5 on my left! He said that is plenty of tube left to conceive. He also said that the OB who tied my tubes did a great job and a very clean and precise job! No damage to my tubes... just a cut and a suture. He didn't have to take much to reconnect them!

I can believe I'm on the other side now! Dr. Berger left my room saying, I'm just going to wait for your call to tell me you are pregnant!

Ladies, I'm extremely tired but I couldn't be more humbled and grateful to my Lord for giving me this opportunity and as well for using Dr. Berger to correct my mistake!!

Tax Returns Fund Tubal Reversal Surgery

"Your itemized expenses need to be more than your standard deduction for it to matter. The standard deduction for a Married filing jointly couple is $10,300. If you have itemized deductions that total more than this then you can itemize and use them. Your medical is only a portion of this amount because the allowable deduction is the amount over 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. For example - if your income is $100,000, then your allowable medical has to be more than $7,500, and then you can only deduct the amount over the $7,500. If your medical totalled $10,000, then you could use $2,500 of it. Medical can be Drs. Dentists, copays, prescription meds, glasses, contacts, and health insurance. There are some more, but these are the majors. You can also deduct travel to and from the Dr and the trip to CH. All of this goes into the number that is reduced by 7.5% of AGI. Other amounts that you can itemize and most people use are their mortgage interest, personal property tax, real estate tax, contributions, both cash and items that they give to Good Will, etc., and state withholding tax. Again there are some more, but these are the main ones. Employee business expenses sometimes come in handy here, but that is a whole other topic. Your best bet is to go to the IRS website and read about it. A lot of people don't get to use their medical expenses, but if you had your TR in 2006, then you really should check and see if it will help you out since this is probably the only time that your medical will be this high."

Hello ladies!

I had my TR on 4/24/06 and during my visit the subject of whether or not TR can be written off came up. My job deals with taxes and tax situations and I went on the IRS site and found Publication 502 which lists what is and isn't a valid medical expense and the following excerpt was noted:

Fertility Enhancement
You can include in medical expenses the cost of the following procedures to overcome an inability to have children.
* Procedures such as in vitro fertilization (including temporary storage of eggs or sperm).
* Surgery, including an operation to reverse prior surgery that prevented the person operated on from having children.

This could help a bit in offsetting the cost of the procedure. I know my husband was glad I found this out and my TR buddy AJ suggested I post it on the boards for everyone to see. (Thanks AJ!)

You can only deduct a PART of your medical and dental expenses that is more than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. (Combined income if you are married). If your medical and dental expenses are less than 7.5% of your adjusted gross income, you cannot claim the deduction on your taxes. All expenses must have been paid during the current tax year. If they were expenses that you were reimbursed for (example: medical flex plan dollars, or insurance) you may not include them as medical expenses.

To figure if the deduction would work for you you need to do the following:

1. figure the amount you paid for qualifying medical expenses after reducing the amount of payments you received from insurance and other sources. This total = X

2. figure out (estimate now) your adjusted gross income.

3. multiply your adjusted gross income by 7.5% (.075) to get total Y.

4. If total Y is more than the amount you figured in step 1 (X), you cannot claim a deduction. If it is less, subtract Y from X to figure out how much you can deduct.

It's a neat concept, but unless you have a very low income or very high medical bills it is difficult to claim.

Yes you can. Milage, rental car or taxi, air fare etc...any means to get to your medical appointment. You can also claim a portion of your meal expenses.

Keep your receipts. I kept everything but still didn't qualify. This year I dumped over $8,000 into my medical flex benefits at work to be sure the government didn't get their share.

Tubal Ligation Side Effects

Are you suffering from tubal ligation side effects? Of course, first off you would have to have had your tubes tied for this to be the cause of what is happening to you. As we can assume you wouldn't be questioning these things being side effects of tubal ligation if you hadn't had your tubes tied, then we can proceed with the knowledge that you did indeed have a tubal.

So what are these side effects you may be suffering from? While many women complain of much heavier bleeding, severe cramping, fatigue, loss of libido and hot flashes, these are not the only symptoms you may suffer. So just because yours doesn't fall in that list doesn't mean it's not one of the side effects of tubal ligation.

If you have gone to your doctor complaining and questioning your symptoms and that they may be related to having your tubes tied, you might have been met with skepticism. You might be told that your body is just getting older or these problems are a result of the stress in your busy life. There are a great many women who, after reaching the age of 40, then decide that they want to have more children although they have undergone tubal ligation. In one tubal reversal center alone during the period of 2001 to 2007, the surgeons carried out 4,025 tubal ligation reversals and 13% of these were for women over 40.

Sometimes, you get thrown a curve. Some time back you had your tubes tied but now you've changed your mind and have had or will have a tubal reversal so you can conceive another child. They don't track their cycle as carefully as you do and the miscarriages can happen very close to menstruation beginning. They just think Aunt Flo came a little early this month. You, however, will be aware of miscarriages that do happen. This is not to say you won't be successful quickly when you are trying to conceive, but it could take a little longer just because this is what can happen.

As a matter of fact, some of Dr. Berger's and Dr. Monteith's patients do achieve a pregnancy after tubal reversal so quickly, it's like they couldn't have even started working on trying to conceive.
